Aldershot Ski Race Club

The Club ...

The club is focussed on Alpine ski racing for young people between the ages of 8 and 18. Club members train and compete in all levels of ski racing throughout the year with considerable success on both snow and artificial slopes. The racers range in ability and experience but are encouraged by our dedicated team of coaches, to reach their full potential through regular attendance of both training and race events.

During the summer season our members compete in regional, national and international events throughout the UK. In the winter, as well as continuing the training locally, the club organises an annual training camp in the Alps. Many members augment this with additional snow training with one of the many good ski race academies. Similar to the summer, the winter competition season includes events suitable for racers of all abilities although the focus tends to be on snow based races in the Alps.

As a club, we're affiliated to Snowsport England through their Snowsport South region and we have parents who take an active role in the organisation and management of the events and regional competitions.

We welcome new skiers to the club and so if you're interested in joining us or just want to have a look round, then get in touch.

Training, Training, Training ...

The club trains twice a week at the slope in Aldershot. Simon Bannister leads a team of dedicated coaches who oversee the training across a number of groups. Individual skiers graduate through the groups based on performance and ability.

The training regime varies through the year. At the end of the summer race season, training focuses on core skiing skills for all racers; this is the foundation work. After Christmas the emphasis changes and skiers work on drills and exercises aimed at improving their performance through poles building up to the start of the summer race season.

Throughout the year the club runs a monthly race during one of the Sunday training sessions giving everyone an opportunity to gauge their progress and performance.

Sunday Mornings ...

8:00am to 10.00am This is the main training session of the week and all club members are encouraged to attend these sessions regularly. During the summer race season some members of the coaching staff will be on hand to run the training sessions even when these conflict with regional or national events.

Wednesday Evenings ...

6:30pm to 8:00pm This mid week session is very popular. During the winter months it is conducted under floodlights.

Clothing ...

Skis, boots, sticks and helmets can all be hired from Alpine Snowsports at the slope if necessary.

Our Promise ...

The club is committed to ensuring all children or young adults participating in snowsports have a safe and positive experience. The club adopts snowsport Englands SnowSafe policy for safeguarding and any future revisions of the policy. See Snowsport England site.
